Galley Department

The Galley or Culinary Department is the 24-hour working department on board a cruise ship.  There are a number of jobs available in this department that include Executive Chef, Assistant Executive Chef, First, Second & Third Cook, Pastry Supervisor, Cooks, Baker Supervisor, Cleaners and Dish Washers.

Executive Chef

Executive Chef overseas the entire operations and staff within the galley department. Over 10 years of experience in a similar role along with a qualification in catering is required for this position. Fluency in English language is essential.

Salary ranges between US $ 4000-5500 per month.

Assistant Executive Chef

Assistant Executive Chef is responsible for the operations and quality output of the galley department and works under direct supervision of the Executive Chef. Over 5 years of experience in a similar role along with a qualification in catering is required for this position. Fluency in English language is essential. This position has a possibility for promotion to Executive Chef.

Salary ranges between US $ 3400-4500 per month.

First Cook

First Cook reports to the executive chef and supervises the second cook, and ensures the preparations of foods. Over 4 years of experience in a similar role in a hotel/ship along with a qualification in catering is required. Fluency in English language is essential. This position has a possibility for promotion to Assistance Executive Chef.

Salary ranges between US $ 1900-2200 per month.

Second Cook & Third Cook

He/she oversees the preparation and cooking of foods and coordinates the final provision from bakers, pastry cooks. 2+ years of experience in a similar role in a hotel/ship along with a fluency in English language is essential. This position has a possibility for promotion to First Cook.

Salary ranges between US $ 1300-1700 per month.

Pastry Chef Supervisor

Pastry Chef Supervisor oversees the entire pastry department within the galley departmendepartment and supervises making of all pastry products. Over 4 years of cooking and managerial experience required for this position. Fluency in English language is essential.

Salary ranges between US $ 1800-2500 per month.

Assistant Pastry Chef Supervisor

Assistant Pastry Chef Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and coordination between trainee pastry man and pastry man. Minimum 3 years of hotel experience along with a fluency in English is required. This position has a possibility for promotion to Pastry Chef Supervisor.

Salary ranges between US $ 1600-2100 per month.

Pastry Man/Woman

Pastry Man/Woman assists Pastry Chef Supervisor in making pastries, and also supervises the pastry trainees. Minimum 2 years hotel experience along with a fluency in English is required. This position has a possibility for promotion to Assistance Pastry Chef Supervisor.

Salary ranges between US $ 1200-1700 per month.

Pastry Trainee

Pastry Trainee assists Pastry Chef in pastry making. Prior hotel experience and reasonable knowledge of English language is required for this position. This position has a possibility for promotion to Pastry Man.

Salary ranges between US $ 900-1300 per month.

Baker Supervisor

Baker Supervisor oversees the entire bakery department within the galley department and supervises the preparations of all bakery products. Over 4 years of cooking and managerial experience required for this position. Fluency in English language is essential.

Salary ranges between US $ 1800-2200 per month.

Assistant Baker Supervisor

Assistant Baker Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and coordination between trainees and bakers. Minimum 3 years hotel experience along with a fluency in English is required. This position has a possibility for promotion to Baker Supervisor.

Salary ranges between US $ 1600-1900 per month.

Baker

Baker assists  Bakery Supervisor in bakery making, and also supervises the bakery trainees. Minimum 2 years hotel experience along with a fluency in English is required. This position has a possibility for promotion to Assistance Baker Supervisor.

Salary ranges between US $ 1200-1700 per month.

Baker Trainee

Baker Trainee assists Bakery Supervisor in bakery making. Prior hotel experience and reasonable English skill are required for this position. This position has a possibility for promotion to Baker.

Salary ranges between US $ 900-1300 per month.

Provision Storekeeper

Provision Storekeeper is responsible for the ordering and ensuring safe packaging and distribution of all food supplies on board the ship. Prior experience within a similar role or in the food and drink industry is required. Skill in accounting will be an added advantage. Fluency in English is a must.

Salary ranges between US $ 1300-1800 per month.

Assistant Provision Storekeeper

Assistant Provision Storekeeper is responsible for the ordering and ensuring safe packaging and distribution of all food supplies on board the ship as directed by the Provisions Storekeeper. Prior experience within a similar role or in the food and drink industry is required.  Fluency in English is a must. This position has a possibility for promotion to Provision Storekeeper.

Salary ranges between US $ 1200-1600 per month.

Trainee Cook

Trainee Cook  is responsible for different aspects related to the preparation of foods under the direct supervision of the First Cook. Prior hotel/ship experience along with a reasonable English speaking skill is required for this position. This position has a possibility for promotion to Second or Third Cook.

Salary ranges between US $ 800-1100 per month.

Crew Cook

Crew Cook is responsible for the preparation of foods for the working crew onboard the ship under the direct supervision of the First Cook. Prior hotel/ship experience along with a reasonable English speaking skill is required. This position has a possibility for promotion to Second or Third Cook.

Salary ranges between US $ 800-1000 per month.

Cleaner

Cleaner is responsible for various cleaning duties within the galley department. No prior experience is required.  Reasonable English speaking skill is desired.

Salary ranges between US $ 700-800 per month.

Dishwasher/Pot Cleaner

He/she is responsible for the cleaning and storage of dishes, cutlery, pots and pans onboard the ship. No prior experience is required.  Reasonable English speaking skill is desired.
