Ships warned as containers floating in the sea
Yesterday ships were warned to be on the lookout for three large 40ft containers floating in the sea.
Two other containers were located about 80 miles, south-south west of Mizen Head yesterday and brought by tug into Castletownbere in west Cork. All the containers are believed to be empty.
The Irish Coast Guard and authorities in the UK have been involved in an ongoing search for the containers.
They came off a German chemical vessel, the MSC Flaminia, on July 14. She was about 1,600km from Ireland when she was hit by an explosion, followed by a fire. The crew had to abandon the vessel which was later towed to a German port.
