Snowstorm hits Shanghai ports, affecting over 80 ships

More than 80 ships were delayed or had their trips canceled due to a severe snowstorm that has battered ports in east China's Shanghai since Tuesday.

Strong winds blasted Shanghai on Monday and a snowstorm followed hitting Tuesday night, with snow turning into floating ice chunks in the sea, said the police at Yangshan Frontier Inspection Station at Yangshan port, Shanghai.

The affected ships accounted for about 70 percent of the number of ships passing through Shanghai's ports daily.

The bad weather was forecast to end Wednesday and the next three or four days would be fine, according to Shanghai Meteorological Observatory.
