Kinder Morgan takes delivery of 4th tanker from Philly Shipyard

Kinder Morgan’s American Petroleum Tankers (APT) unit on Monday took delivery of the fourth of four 50,000-deadweight-ton products tankers, from Philly Shipyard Inc., in Philadelphia.

The 600-foot tanker, American Pride, like its three siblings, has a carrying capacity of 14.5 million gallons of crude oil or refined products. Each ship cost roughly $125 million, Kallanish Energy calculates.

“We are proud to deliver the final product tanker in the four-ship series for American Petroleum Tankers that began with the promotion by Philly Shipyard of a new Jones Act shipping venture, Philly Tankers, over three years ago,” said Steinar Nerbovik, Philly Shipyard’s president and CEO.

The tanker is based on a Hyundai Mipo Dockyards (HMD) design that incorporates fuel efficiency features, flexible cargo capability, and the latest regulatory requirements. The vessel has also received LNG Ready Level 1 approval from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).
