SHENZHEN TO HOST FIRST LNG OFFSHORE BUNKER TERMINAL IN CHINA

The first offshore bunkering facility for LNG at a Chinese port will be developed at the port of Shenzhen, the port authorities announced on 3 June.

An agreement was signed between the government of Shenzhen, Yantian Port Group and state-owned energy major PetroChina, which will supply LNG for the project. Shenzhen Gas Group was the fourth signatory.

The new offshore terminal will initially feature 8,000-10,000 cbm bunker vessels, with an annual bunkering capacity of 230,000 tonnes.

The project is expected to be the test case for the development of LNG bunkering. It is also intended to develop solutions to supply LNG for large LNG-fuelled container vessels. In a subsequent phase of the project, the project intends to commission the construction of a large LNG bunker vessel, “with an annual capacity of 1m t/y”.

The port of Shenzhen is one of China's busiest container ports.
