As a Deck cadet, part of your duties will include helping to oversee the safe navigation of the ship, to ensure deck maintenance and to supervise the crew. Your working area will be predominantly on the ship's Bridge as well as other external deck areas. Responsibilities will include maintaining deck areas, taking part in the 'watch' which incorporates most arrivals and departures from port, looking after the charts and logbook, maintaining accurate records of the ship's position and eventually supervised driving of the ship and negotiation of traffic situations. Job Requirements: In order to be eligible for sponsorship, applicants must own a British passport or should be EU nationals and a resident in the UK for a minimum of 12 months. HND: High grade passes at GCSE (grades A*- B) or the equivalent in English, Maths, Physics or Combined Science and at least one other subject. Plus (Foundation Degree/Scottish Diploma Entry Route): A Level or Level 3 equivalent with a minimum of 120 UCAS points or 48 UCAS Tariff points (including a numerate based subject in either Math or Science). Scottish Diploma- Higher Maths (A-C) or Higher Physical Science (Physics/Chemistry/Technological studies etc.) (A-C) and National 5 English (A-C) alternatively: A Level Maths (A-D) or A Level Physical Science (A-D) and GCSE English (A-C) To increase your opportunity of a career, you would have completed a Level 3 course such as; Pre- Cadetship or an equivalent level of qualification in Electrical or Engineering (e.g. BTEC National Diploma or GNVQ Advanced).
