We are looking for the Technical Superintendent for our office located in Rijeka, Croatia. Overall Purpose: To have responsibility for the efficient operation of the ships to which he has been assigned and to work as a member of the Ship Management Team operating to Company procedures and best ship management practices whilst giving absolute regard to safety of life at sea and protection of the environment at all times. Key Tasks and Responsibilities: • Arranges periodical inspections of the vessel (it is recommended at least 3 inspections per year per vessel although our manuals says the minimum compulsory is two with no more than six months between two consecutive inspections) and reporting on general condition, repairs and maintenance, crew performance, safety, environmental protection, and any actions required. Discussing with Ship's Command the work plan, running costs, spares and stores and other issues of concern and reporting on same. • Completes the formal assessment of the four (4) top officers and issue the relevant Company form to be sent to the DPA and to the Crew Manager anytime visiting a ship. • Acts as first contact support to the vessel for ordinary technical problems. • Is responsible for full organization of shore services, issues the relevant Service Orders (with company’s program – OMS) and collects/files the final servicing reports. Approves the relevant invoices upon request of the Accounting Department. • All Service orders must include estimated costs and description of technical problem. • Plans and follows up all Class surveys. • Follows up Class recommendations. • Is responsible of vessel certificates (Issue, data, due date, and filing in office). • Implements PMP on board and verifies such implementation. • Is responsible for the maintenance program of safety devices and critical equipment. • Directs the purchasing activities and approves orders. • Monitors, analyses and reports vessels performances (actual average speed, actual average consumption of bunkers and lubricants, non compliance with charter party, stress limits in full loaded and ballast conditions). • Follows up to all periodical forms coming from vessels and send forms back signed and with comments where necessary to the vessel. All forms to be filed as per approved filing system. • Prepares the vessel running cost budget to be presented to the Fleet Manager. • Attends and supervises the major repairs at shipyard as directed by the Fleet Manager and in coordination with the CEO (release of the DD technical Specification final issue is a duty of the Technical Superintendent – DD report to be issued). • Member of Emergency Response Team • Assists the DPA in the investigation of Incidents and to establish the root cause and make recommendations to prevent recurrence. • Interviews and briefs Senior Officers on the work plan and requirements prior to their joining the vessel. • Issues of periodical reports to be sent to Owners as per Blank report named: Periodical Vessel report. • Might be appointed as ISM/ISPS auditor Position Requirements: • Previous experience as Technical Superintendent in Technical Department, or previous experience in a Senior Engineering position in the Marine Industry. • Recognized engineering or naval architecture qualification either at sea or university. At least 6 years sea time as C/E or 2/E. • Ability to administer technical and budgetary requirements. • Good communicator. • Fluent in English Language. • Computer literate.

The successful candidate will oversee the operation and maintenance of KAUST marine assets in support of the university’s marine operation research mandate. Key Responsibilities: • Develop management processes for the service delivery, and optimized allocation and scheduling of KAUST marine resources. • Plan and execute research marine field work programs and cruises. • Coordinate with KAUST scientists and research teams about field work programs and equipment needs; and support marketing activities in pursuit of commercial work. • Provide high-level leadership for all marine operations personnel, including ship captains, boat skippers, engineering staff, etc., including crewing, staff development, and succession planning. • Oversee safe, effective, efficient and economic management of the operation, maintenance and overhaul of ships, workboats, inflatable boats, and research field and deployment equipment. • Provide adequate engineering experience for the management, maintenance, and periodic inspection of the whole acquisition of assets (ship, workboats and field equipment). Coordinate engineering support requirements for marine operations, such as during cruises and dive-assisted deployment of marine sampling equipment. • Prepare and supervise dry-dockings including but not limited to preparation and tendering of dry-dock specifications, and management supervision of dry-docking of KAUST owned vessels. Liaise with service providers and suppliers. • Obtain approval from Classification Societies in respect of vessels Statutory and Class requirements and maintain an ongoing liaison with these bodies, if required. • Promote and support new technologies. Propose and implement logistics, health & safety, security, and environmental improvements for KAUST marine operations. • Oversee procurement and stocking of work tools, spare parts, fuels, consumables, and edible supplies; and ensure best value for money and KAUST purchasing standards are maintained. • Supervise all marine and related land logistical operations, including storage, safekeeping, packaging, material handling, and shipping. • Upkeep KAUST pier, docks, boat jetties, and their systems. • Prepare operation budgets (and capital expenditure requests) for marine vessels and equipment. Monitor the implementation of these budgets and produce monthly and annual budget reports. • Monitor report and implement current and new marine regulations affecting KAUST marine operations. Verify vessels are compliant with all relevant regulations and produce variance reports. • Provide leadership role and act as contract manager in leasing of research vessels and maritime equipment. • Ensure delivery of appropriate feedback on task completion, outstanding work, condition of asset and additional work required. Qualifications: • A Licensed Mariner with BSc in nautical Science (preferably a Master Mariner) or BSc in Marine Engineering, or equivalent qualification with proven track record of growing marine operations responsibilities over a minimum period of 15 years, including at least 5 years as Marine Operation Manager • At least 10 years of shipboard and seagoing experience • Knowledge of marine services for academic and research institutions, is preferred • Experience in dive operations and deployment of field equipment is preferred • Knowledge of ship maintenance and repair • Thorough working knowledge of UNOLS, RVOC, MARPOL and other relevant protocols • High level awareness of Health and Safety issues • Fluency in both spoken and written English
