Dry cargo freight rates on the decline
Dry cargo ship-owners have had a tough week. The Baltic Dry Index has fallen by 3,81 % in the week of February 15-21 and is now on the level of 706. The hopes and predictions were for the freight rates to recover significantly after the end of the Chinese Lunar Year and the start of production activities in China. However, the increase and recovery of shipping activities were lower than many hoped for.

IMO: Polar Code guidelines and standards under construction
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is developing a mandatory Polar Code in order to set standards for ship construction and operation in polar waters, according to INTERTANKO's Technical Director, Dragos Rauta, who was at IMO this week.
